An unadopted road typically allows the public a right to pass, but it may also be a private street over which only some people, usually the owners, have a private right of access.

Unadopted roads, or private roads as they are more commonly known, are thought to cover 4,000 miles of land in the UK. With these roads not being insured or maintained by local councils, it is worth knowing what you should do if you are responsible for one.
