Moorland insurance

Moorland insurance is a type of land insurance that you can get if you have a piece of land that is usually an open plot that is covered with things such as heather and moss. These types of land are usually higher than other land and can often be quite hilly and as you can guess from the name are generally moors.

This type of insurance is especially valuable if the public has access rights to the moor so that they can walk across it because if they was to injure themselves whilst on the land then they could hold you responsible as the landowner, and therefore any damages that they may seek that results from their injuries would have to be paid by you which is where the Land Insurance comes in to play.

The price for a years cover, at a limit of one million pounds cover, start from just £105 but obviously depending on various things such as the acreage of the land, the location of the land and whether or not there are any buildings on the land will make a difference. This is only the price for the basic cover and it would obviously be a higher figure if you were to get a quotation for either two million or five million pounds limit of cover.

These are not the only things that will determine how much you will pay for a years cover as there are certain other aspects that insurers take in to account such as how long you have owned the land and any former uses of the land, for example if it used to be a quarry or a mine then they may not offer a quotation at all.

There is an additional policy that you can also look at with moorland insurance in the case of if you have animals that regularly graze on the land. You can add Straying of Livestock cover on to your Land Insurance policy which means that if the animals (for example sheep or cows) were to get free from the land then get onto a road and cause a car accident then you would be held liable as they have escaped from your land.
