An unexploded bomb from World War 2 was found in East London following work to clear a site for the 2012 Olympic Games. A safety zone was created which caused severe disruptions to rail links nearby. Also flights out of City Airport and Heathrow were changed due to the flight path going over the bomb location.

Bomb disposal units were called in and initiated a controlled explosion on the 1,000kg bomb, the largest WWII device to be found in 30 years. The finding has caused worry among future Olympic travellers to the country but it should be known that it is very rare that such bombs explode without force but if found then care should be taken and the appropriate experts should be contacted.
